In February 2020 there was an inflation of 0.19 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 105.08. Out of 90 CPI cities, 73 cities experienced inflation and 17 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sintang by 1.21 percent with CPI of 109.73 and the lowest occurred in Pare-Pare by 0.02 percent with CPI of 103.82. While the highest deflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan of 1.20 percent with CPI of 103.66 and the lowest occurred in Padang Sidimpuan of 0.01 percent with CPI of 104.01.
Inflation occurred due to price increases indicated by an increase in most of the expenditure group index, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.40 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0,49 percent; household appliances, equipment and routine maintenance by 0.22 percent; health group of 0.74 percent; information, communication and financial services by 0.40 percent; recreation, sports and culture group by 0.22 percent; education group by 0.56 percent; and the personal care and other services group by 0.16 percent. Whereas the deflation group was housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.05 percent and the transportation group by 0.34 percent. While in the food and beverage / restaurant supply group there was no change in the index.
The February 2020 calendar year inflation rate is 1.34 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (February 2020 against February 2019) is 3.66 percent.
